Kokonoe Mirin was established in 1772 making us the oldest continuous maker of mirin in Japan.
Kokonoe Mirin is located in the Mikawa region of Japan, an area that is well-known for the production of traditional Japanese seasonings such as mirin, soy sauce and miso (fermented bean paste). The first producer of mirin in the Mikawa region was Nobuatsu Ishikawa-Hachirouemon the 22nd, the founder of our company. After that, as the production techniques of Kokonoe Mirin spread, many other mirin producers sprang up eventually making Mikawa a region famous for mirin production.
Kokonoe Mirin has been producing our mirin according to traditional techniques passed down from generation to generation. Although mirin is now often produced on a large scale, at Kokonoe Mirin we prefer to produce our delicious mirin on a small scale by using these time-honored methods that insist on the use of slow and careful production procedures, resulting in a superior quality product. Thus, the basic policy of Kokonoe Mirin is to continue producing delicious mirin.
